Sarcophagus of Ancient
Thirty sarcophagi (a mummy other funeral objects) from five generations of priests in the temple gardens Amun are on the display for the first time since their discovery in 1903!
This exhibition is now closed- however there is plenty more to see at the museum!
The museum is the centre piece of the Fundació Arqueologica Clos, a foundation established in 1993 by Jordi Clos, a man with passion and expertise in the field of Egyptology. It is home to one of the biggest collections of Ancient Egyptian pieces in Europe with over 1000 exhibits to explore in 2000 square metres of exhibition and lecture space.
The foundation is committed to the further understanding of Egyptian culture and as well as the museum it has related study programmes: in 2001 it created the School of Egyptology, which is part of a programme backed by the Univeritat Autónoma de Barcelona. There is also a library, a specialist shop and a travel company dedicated to all things Egyptian!
The Museum is open 362 days a year: Monday – Saturday 10.00 to 20.00 and Sundays 10.00 to 14.00. Adult entrance is around €11 and concessions €8. It is easily accessible being on Valéncia 284 and the closest Metro stops are Passeig de Grácia and Diagonal- therefore ideal for a spot of culture followed by some shopping- Grácia being home to some of the top stores in the city.
