Restaurants in Barcelona

man with big PaellaThere are many great restaurants in Barcelona- your only problem will be deciding which one to go to! There is all sorts from traditional to modern, Italian to Indian, beachside to city centre, expensive or cheap so you are bound to find something to suit you. Head to the port for some great fresh seafood and wander through the narrow old streets of El Borne for some well priced Catalan eats. Although vegetarianism is still not as common in Spain as some places, there are a growing number of restaurants that cater for vegetarians or have an entirely vegetarian menu.

7 Portes: One of the oldest restaurants in Barcelona. Diners are a hall of fame including Ava Gardener, Bo Derek, Charlton Heston, Errol Flynn, Jaques Delors, Joan Collins, Joan Miro, John Wayne, Jordi Pujol, Orson Welles and many others. You can still see famous people queuing to get in with the rest of us. Literally 4 minutes walk from the majority of our Barcelona Flats and Apartments.

Gastronomic: Gastronomic restaurants in Barcelona. Again a meeting place for the famous but available for the rest of us to enjoy beautiful cuisine.

Botafumeiro: World famous Barcelona Seafood restaurant where you can pick your own lobster. Based in Gracia, in fact Gran de Gracia. This place has an atmosphere all of its own.

La Venta Restaurant: Great Cooking. Garden-terraces at the bottom of Tibidabo Pl. Dr. Andreu s/n, Barcelona No website so phone 93 212 64 55, English Spoken

Tablao Cordobes Restaurant: with Flamenco show, Flamenco music and of course Flamenco dancers. You can even reserve a table online at this site. Located on the Rambla, just opposite Placa Reial it is nice and central. Shows are for the tourists but entertaining none the less.

2 Can Majó: If you like your seafood then head to Barceloneta, brimming with choice, you might be overwhelmed however. Can Majó provides a range of good quality produce including some tasty Paella- a must on any visit to Spain. If you want to be a bit different from your average tourist and experience something more local and Catalan, then try the Fideuá instead. It is a dish made with noodles instead of rice and lots of lovely fresh fish. The restaurant offers good value, especially for a beachside restaurant, some of which can be overpriced. With mains from about €10 you don’t have to feel too guilty about treating yourself! Calle de Almirall Aixada 23; 00 34 93 221 5455

Kaiku: This does not have the look of fine dining about it but if you get past that to experience the quality dishes available within you will learn that looks truly can be deceiving. Quite a few locals have discovered this and consequently you may need to book ahead or be prepared to wait for a table at this restaurant. Stick with fish and you are not likely to be disappointed; the chef’s rice is especially good. Plaça del Mar 1; 00 34 93 221 9082

Taller de Tapas: (Rambla Catalyuna) This is a chain restaurant; however do not let that put you off. Between all the dark wood and mirrors of modern Spanish décor you can sample some great traditional tapas with a modern twist and some great accompanying wines. Patatas Bravas get a bit of an all American overhaul being served more like potato wedges than bite sized morsels, but the Tortilla Española and Russian salad remain more true to form. They have some excellent fish dishes too. This is great for a lively dinner with friends, plenty of variety of tapas and flowing wine will mean there is something for everyone.
