This new tapas bar can be found on Avenida Parallel, nº164 and is the creation of the famous Adria brothers, Ferran (of El Bulli fame) & Albert. The restaurant has a fairground theme in an Amercan way and it is very unlike the normal Barcelona tapas bar you would expect to find!

CUINES SANTA CATARINA

An impressive venue located in the brand new Santa-Caterina's market - in El Born district. Cuines, meaning kitchens in Catalan, offers 4 different types of cooking: Asian, Mediterranean, Italian and vegetarian. It is a popular haunt for locals after finishing buying their super fresh produce from the market where it is located. It is part of the Tragaluz Group which has many other restaurants around Barcelona.

BAR VELODROMO

Located at C/Muntaner, 213, with its shutters down for nearly a decade after experiencing political plots and civil wars, its kitchen is now run by super chef Carles Abellan (who proudly has a Michelin star!), and it offers tapas and classic Catalan bistro dishes all day. (open Monday to Sunday from 06.00 am - 03.00 am). The restaurant maintains many of its original elements to provide the customer with an authentic and enjoyable eating experience with a great buzzing atmosphere!

Els Quatre Gats Restaurant recommended by Barcelona FlatsELS QUATRE GATS

Another restaurant preserving Barcelona´s history, operating as a cafe, cabaret and all-round artistic space between 1897 and 1903 is definitely a famous piece of Barcelona´s forklore. It is inspired by modernist thought and even hosted Pablo Picasso´s first art exhibition to now become an impressive restaurant offering Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine in a vibrant atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit! Great value menu del dia! Ther is an upstairs balcony which looks down on the main restaurant below.

A small but ever popular cava/tapas bar located in the Born district and on Calle Montcada, 22, (the same street as The Picasso Museum), in a barrio that has undergone more changes through history than Barcelona itself. It is a cava & tapas restaurant which has been run by more than 3 generations of the same family and yet never fails to satisfy its customers. You can indulge in the delicious tapas with a glass of the the famous family cava, called ¨xampanyet¨, both at your table or at the bar. Get there early or you might find yourself stuck out on the street, as it gets very, very busy!!

This is "the place to go" sushi restaurant in Gracia (just off the Diagonal, by Passeig de Gracia). Food is served in an unconventional way, with the help of a conveyor belt. You just sit and choose whichever plates of sushi that your fancy. There is a lot of choice AND you can eat as much as you want/can!! It is excellent value too - lunch is 10€ and dinner is 15€. A tip - get there early as it is usually packed within half an hour of opening.

A family run Catalan restaurant which provides good service, an extensive tapas menu and a non-stop kitchen, thus making it a perfect stop for lunch in between one of those long shopping days on Passeig de Gracia! You will find it on C/ Mallorca, 236, on the corner with Rambla de Catalunya. It is not possible to book ahead so arrive early to be sure of a table and avoid queueing!! There is also an outside terrace.

Off a small plaza in Gracia you will find this small but popular and affordable sushi restaurant. They specialize in creative sushi rolls. It is a popular haunt for locals and fans of Japanese cuisine. There is a menu of the day at lunchtime. It has a sister restaurant on Calle Verdi.

MENU DEL DIA

From Monday to Friday 1pm – 4pm locales flock to restaurants for the affordable menu del día averaged at around 9€ including starter, main course, dessert and drink. You may even be lucky and come across a Menu at the weekend too!

Tapas is a traditional selection of food served in Spanish bars, consisting of appertizers or snacks and usually eaten between the end of work and the normal late Spanish supper, alongside a cerveza (beer) or copa de vino (glass of wine). Tapas can range from just a small dish of olives or chorizo to plates of calamares (squid), potatas bravas, tortilla  etc etc.. No holiday is complete in Barcelona without at least one evening enjoying some tapas! Try our favourite tapas bars - La Cervezeria Catalana or La Xampanyet ( see above).
