How easy is it to get from Barcelona airport to my apartment?
There are 3 airports, El Prat, Girona and Reus. El Prat is the closest, approximately 40 minutes by bus to the centre of Barcelona, Plaça Catalunya. Reus and Girona are about 1hr 15 minutes away and the Girona bus comes into Estacion Nord which is not quite so central. However, once in Barcelona it is simple.
From Girona, take the airport bus to Estacion Nord. It is called the Barcelona Bus and will pick you up and drop you off right outside Girona airport terminal.
From El Prat you can take the train, taxi or Aerobus. Works are in progress for the new high speed train AVE between Madrid and Paris, via Barcelona, which means it is not possible to be sure of the length of time that the train will take to get to Barcelona. By taxi it is straightforward and can of course take you close to the door of your apartment. The cost is about 22-27 Euros depending on numbers of people and cases, We prefer the Aerobus, which we normally use when travelling at 5.15€ per person. It goes from the El Prat Airport terminal to Plaça Catalunya and is air conditioned.
Ryanair now flies direct to Barcelona El Prat. For more details see Ryanair.
Will I need medical insurance for my holiday to Barcelona?
There are many hospitals in Barcelona. In an emergency you will get treated, but you may be asked to pay - in advance. Most travel insurance includes medical cover and we think it wise to have this cover. Whilst the cost of medical care is not disproportionate to Northern Europe it does still mean if you have a serious problem, it could be expensive. Barcelona Flats has provided a link for you below for great value, multi trip world wide cover.
