Barcelona Beaches
Barcelona beaches run the length of the sea-front from the old port to the Forum, a distance of several kilometres. They are superb. Long, clean and sandy, we recommend them to all. In the centre of all the beaches is Port Olympica, the port designed especially for the 1992 Olympics and now the very popular marina here in Barcelona. Beaches here are given different names, although apart from the distraction of Port Olympica the beaches are, to all intents and purposes, one long beach. Barcelona Beach is easily accessible from all our Barcelona Apartments and Flats. The closest to the beach at just a 30 second walk is Apartment Beach

The first photo is of St. Sebastià, a favourite among locals. The second is the well-known Barceloneta, the closest to the centre and also Las Ramblas.

Following it is Nova Icaria, frequented by families, it is one of the most quiet areas of Barcelona. Bogatell is the forth one and was build in 1992, for the Olympics. The following, beautiful Mar Bella is the youngest of all. Nova Mar Bella, on the other hand. was built for the Olympics in 1992 and it is also favourite by ladies. The last, but not least Llevant has 380 metres! Several of the Barcelona beaches have restaurants and cafes right on the beach, in Barceloneta there is also the first Ice Bar on the beach in the world !
One of the interesting things that you can see from the Barcelona Beaches is the arrival and depaurture of the cruise ships. Barcelona´s specialy built cruise ship port is host to all the big companies that provide Mediteranean cruises such as Carnival, Princess, Disney and many more. The Liberty of the Seas is based here.
If you are looking for a beach a bit further away from all the buzz in the city, there are also various opportunities close to Barcelona. Within an hour or less on the train or by car you have the choice of multiple beautiful beaches near Barcelona. You can either go South to the Costa Brava or head North to enjoy one of the beaches at the Maresme coast.
One of the most famous ones is probably Sitges. The pretty small town on the Costa Brava just 30km south of Barcelona already offers you 17 beaches which are meant to be amongst the best on the Mediterranean coast! Sitges is the perfect destination for you, if you want to combine your beach day with a pleasant stroll through the little town with its stunning architecture, lovely French restaurants and bohemian atmosphere. Trains to Sitges run every 30 min. from the centre of Barcelona. Each way from the train station Passeig de Gracia to Sitges costs about 4€.
The beaches North of Barcelona are also easy to access by train. You need to catch one of the Renfe Rodalies R1 trains at the station on Plaza Catalunya (you can also get on at the stations Sants, Arc de Triomf or Clot) in the direction of Maçenet-Massanes. Prices depend on how far you want to leave the city behind you (there are 6 zones). A return ticket to Sant Pol de Mar (approx. 1h train ride) costs 7€. On the ride out of Barcelona you can hop of whenever you feel like it, choosing one of the beaches on the way. The closer the beaches are to Barcelona the more urban they are, so if you are actually looking for a relaxing and quiet day you should go a bit further.
Sant Pol de Mar offers lovely beaches and a nice little town with a fishermens' ambience to go to for lunch. If you want to treat yourself with something special you should book a table in the 2 star Michelin restaurant Sant Pau, which is run by the Catalan chef Carme Ruscalleda i Serra and her husband Toni Balam.
Even closer to Barcelona is Caldes d'Estrac with charming modernist villas on the beach road called Passeig dels Angelos. Being former embassies those impressive villas are nowadays private residences giving the town an upper-class feeling. In addition to the beautiful beach Caldes d'Estrac offers nice thermal baths in which you can enjoy various massages or the Palau foundation art museum with Picasso notes and works by Catalan painters.
