We three kings, of orient are, bearing gifts we travel afar - to Barcelona

Christmas is fast approaching, as if you didn't already know.  And with it comes the question of what presents to buy.  Whilst Northern European shops are very good at tempting us to part wth our money, we wonder if you ever feel the need to get something a little different.  AND to go back to the days when Christmas shopping was fun, an experience to be savoured.   We all have our different criteria but Barcelona has such a wide choice of shops, we think that it has the chance to satisfy most peoples needs. 

There are three big shopping malls in Barcelona if that is your thing.  You also have the main shopping area around Paseo de Gracia, Plaça Catalunya etc where you will find the designer shops but you also have the thousands of small shops and boutiques in the old quarter, around El Born and Gracia.  These provide the opportunity for much more relaxing shopping, the joy of an unexpected find and much variety. (I was asked for the tattoo shop by two very beefy blokes recently).  There is also the Christmas markets around the Cathedral

Why Barcelona, not New York, for my Christmas shopping?  Good question.  With the dollar at a historic low against the euro and the pound it may appear "cheap".  Well there two reasons.  Firstly, Barcelona has more boutique and individual shops so you do stand a much better chance of finding something that your loved one will like.  Secondly, New York can be cold and horrible whilst Barcelona can be chilly but with the trademark Barcelona brilliant blue sky!!

If you prefer to join us for another of our Festivals, the festival of the three kings is on January 6th 2008.  The three kings and their supporting cast actually arrive at the port and make their way through the city, handing out sweets to the children, an event that can attract thousands along the route.

Barcelona goes around the world

The 11th November saw the start of the unique and first Barcelona World Race.  This round the world, non stop race is the first in what will be an event held every fourth year.  The boats are spectacular and what makes this different is that they are crewed by just a two man crew.  To see more about the race, including live updates, live video etc see www.barcelonaworldrace.com .  If you are coming to see the end of the race remember to book your accommodation at www.barcelonaflats.co.uk
